[German]Microsoft has surprisingly announced that the Insider Preview from the 20H1 development branch (leading to the Windows 10 version expected for spring 2020) will land in the Fast Ring ‘in the coming weeks’.
Remember: Starting next week Microsoft will provide the Windows 10 May 2019 Update in the Release Preview Ring for insiders (see Windows 10 May 2019 Update brings back Update control). This will free the Fast Ring and the Slow Ring for testing newer insider previews. Microsoft is currently testing Windows 10 insider builds from the 20H1 development branch in the Skip Ahead Ring. Now Microsoft announces the following for Windows Insider:
With the Windows 10 May 2019 Update being shared to the Release Preview ring soon (see this blog post for details), we’re planning to move Windows Insiders in the Fast ring forward to 20H1. We will also be merging the small group of Insiders who opted-in to Skip Ahead back into the Fast ring. We are looking to make this change in the coming weeks.
According to Microsoft, insiders should check in which ring they have registered before the changes take effect. This may be checked within Settings visiting Update & security – Windows Insider program. There you can choose the rings.
Windows Insiders who want to stay with the Windows 10 May 2019 update – should switch to the Slow Ring or the Release Preview Ring as soon as it receives the Windows 10 May 2019 update.
Microsoft notes that the 20H1 builds come from our development branch (RS_PRERELEASE). As usual with builds at the beginning of the development cycle, these builds may contain some fat (for some painful) bugs. If you’re in the Fast Ring, you can’t switch to the Slow or Release Preview Ring after upgrading to Windows 10 20H1 without reinstalling Windows 10.
What’s with Windows 10 19H2, the next build for Fall 2019? Microsoft writes: We will begin releasing 19H2 bits to Insiders later this spring and will talk more about what that will look like in the near future. (via)
